Marilynn Ito-Won is an associate professor and counsellor at . She puts her students first, acting as an extra "mom" who is concerned about each and every one of them. They seek her out, and she is always available to help. One instructor says, "She has been the sole savior of lots of my students on the verge of dropping out."

Ito-Won also possesses an incredible understanding of the latest developments and technical changes in each program area. These changes impact present and future workforce demands and job placement. A true leader in using technology to assist students, she ensures that Honolulu Community College program information is available on the Web.

Ito-Won has demonstrated unceasing commitment to her programs and students over the past 15 years. She is responsive, reliable and professional.

The Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education rewards outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student.

The award was established by family members to honor the namesakes’ role in development of the food industry in Hawai‘i.
