The role of hardware in Responsible AI (RAI) governance

March 12, 2025 - February 12, 2025
Mānoa Campus, AgSci 219 or Zoom

School of Communication and Information Professor Jenifer Winter explores Responsible AI with a focus on the hardware ecosystem, highlighting the current discourse gap, where RAI principles primarily address data and algorithms, neglecting the crucial role of AI hardware. She will introduce core RAI concepts—like fairness, accountability, transparency, privacy/security, sustainability—and how they relate to hardware, and will examine challenges, regulatory approaches, and opportunities for integrating RAI into hardware systems, touching on governance mechanisms and the concept of "Sovereign AI."

Attend in person, with pupus from 4:30 p.m., or online at 5 p.m. Email ernst@hawaii.edu or rsvp at https://go.hawaii.edu/HTb to receive Zoom link and YouTube url once recorded session has been posted.
