Norman Takeya is an assistant professor for the Construction Management program at Honolulu Community College.

Takeyaଁs students praise him for “making the most of each class and ensuring that students understand the subject matter of each chapter.” They also say that he gives examples from personal experiences and brings in professionals of a particular field/trade to speak in class.

Takeya is also commended for supporting his students in activities beyond the classroom, having spent hours helping students find employment in the industry and participating in industry organizations. The student chapter of the industry organization paired students with mentors, which provided real world information about their career path.

His students were encouraged to participate in various remodel expos and residential competitions resulting in several awards including first place for outstanding student chapter.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students.
