A Glimpse of India Beyond Bollywood

Mānoa Campus, QLC 412

Lecture by Dr. Padmini Bhuyan Boruah, Fulbright Visiting Scholar from India Queen Liliā€˜uokalani Center for Student Services Room 412, 51²č¹Ż Manoa

Mark Twain called India ā€œthe cradle of the human raceā€¦the mother of history, the grandmother of legend.ā€ Representations of the country in media, social media, art, theatre, film and literature have both perpetuated myths about what it is to be Indian, and also demolished stereotypes. Multilingual, multicultural and multiethnic, India is a composite of many ideas, ideologies and identities. It is miraculous how we have managed to survive in relative harmony within the dynamic of diversity. In this presentation, I hope to show different facets of being ā€œIndian,ā€ contemporary as well as historical, and being Indian in a foreign land.
