Chandigargh: Gender and the Nation in a Modernist City

Please join CSAS in the series of events from March 6 to 8, 2018. In conjunction with the International Cultural Studies (ICS), Geography Department and the Asian Studies Program, we will be hosting Dr. Anu Sabhlok and filmmaker Hari Kondabolu.
Sabhlok is an Indian architect, geographer and feminist scholar. She earned a double PhD in “feminist geography†from Penn State University and currently an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER).
Her work addresses politics of security, development, discursive practices of the nation-state and nationalism. Her research projects include - “A feminist reading of the city of Chandigarhâ€, “Constructing the Nation: An ethnographic account of migrant road builders at the Indo-Tibetan Border Roadsâ€, “SEWA in relief: Gendered Geographies of Disaster Relief in Gujarat, Indiaâ€.
Addressing issues of gender, nationalism, research methodology, and disaster management, she has prolifically published in journals including Antipode, Economic and Political Weekly, Geoforum, Women Studies International Forum.
