Featuring Keynote Speakers:
Graeme Wood, national correspondent for The Atlantic, will speak on ââ¬ÅISIS Goes East: The Caliphate in Southeast Asia.ââ¬Â Wood wrote the magazineââ¬â¢s acclaimed report ââ¬ÅWhat ISIS Really Wants.ââ¬Â His new book, The Way of the Strangers: Encounters with the Islamic State, recounts the lives and beliefs of ISIS supporters from the U.S., Japan, Australia, Middle East and Europe. Wood was a EWC Jefferson Fellow in 2009.
John Nery, Associate Editor and Opinion Columnist at the Philippine Daily Inquirer, will speak on ââ¬ÅThe Growth of ISIS in Mindanao.ââ¬Â Born in Mindanao, he is an award-winning investigative journalist, author and book editor, and represents the Inquirer Group on the Executive Board of the Asia News Network. Nery was a 2005 EWC Jefferson Fellow.
With Discussant:
Aneela Khalid, a broadcast and print journalist from Pakistan who has covered terrorism and other issues in that countryââ¬â¢s tribal areas for domestic and international news outlets. She was a 2012 EWC Pakistan-U.S. Journalists Exchange fellow.
Moderated by Bill Dorman, Hawaii Public Radio news director and 2015 EWC Korea-U.S. Journalists Exchange fellow.
