ImayÅ: Artist talk by painter KIMURA RyÅko
October 20, 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, John Young Museum of Art
Painter KIMURA RyÅko talks about her work in this artist talk. She is one of six artists highlighted in the exhibition "ImayÅ: Japan's New Traditionists" on view at The Art Gallery at the University of Hawai‘i at MÄnoa (Oct. 2 – Dec. 2, 2016) and at the Honolulu Museum of Art (Oct. 13, 2016 – Jan. 9, 2017).
KIMURA RyÅko’s paintings evoke Japan’s "ukiyo-e" (pictures of the floating world) tradition, but with a twist—the substitution of Edo-period female beauties with contemporary male models creates images that fluctuate between the erotic and the comic.
