Genealogies, Kuleana, and Unstaking Settler Colonial Claims to HawaiƊĀ»i

September 8, 12:00pm - 1:15pm
Mānoa Campus, Kuykendall 410

Staking Claim demonstrates the ways racialization fuels settler colonialism in the islands through an interdisciplinary analysis. It argues that the racialization of Hawaiians and the indigenization of non-Hawaiians work concurrently to enable the staking of non-Hawaiian claims to HawaiĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢i.

Author of Staking Claim, Judy Rohrer, grew up in HawaiĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢i and earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of HawaiĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢i at MƄĀnoa. RohrerĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢s first book, Haoles in HawaiĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢i, was published in 2010 through the University of HawaiĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢i Press.
