Abby C. Collier is an assistant professor in the Department of Tropical Medicine and Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology at 51²è¹Ý Manoa’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.
She is a dynamic and charismatic communicator who possesses a gift for making complex and abstract subjects accessible. Collier is able to fuse creativity with logic and encourages her students to develop original approaches in their own work at the bench.
She also engages in community outreach to recruit high school students into her laboratory each summer and into the Science Fair each fall.
Collier believes that “when a professor teaches in a classroom or laboratory, this not only benefits the student but also strengthens the community.”
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students.
