Building Capacity for Water Quality Research and Monitoring on Maui

by Dr. Andrea Kealoha

University of Hawai‘i Maui College

In 2020, the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (51²è¹ÝMC) opened Maui’s first water quality lab. The 51²è¹ÝMC Water Quality Lab has three main goals: (1) provide 51²è¹ÝMC students with educational opportunities for field work and research related to water quality, (2) build capacity for water quality monitoring on Maui, and (3) conduct research that benefits Hawai‘i’s coastal ecosystems. This seminar will primarily focus on our lab’s current research projects that investigate the impact of multiple stressors, such as eutrophication and acidification, on coral reef ecosystem health.
