“Comparison, Fusion, and Bricolage: The Place of Islamic Philosophyâ€
Commonly, “bricolage†is seen as an inferior modus operandi in that it suggests a mind merely supplying, replacing, and/or re- pairing. The image that comes to mind is of a workshop where a craftsperson ably adapts or recreates pieces needed to get a ma- chine to work. But isn’t getting something to work what all phi- losophers endeavor to do? This paper explores bricolage as a pos- sibly more humble and intellectually more principled approach to making simultaneous use of materials originating from different traditions. It will also discuss the place of Islamic philosophy within what is still being called “comparative philosophy.â€
