"Filling the Void: Creating Playing Space for Today's Pacific Islander"
April 19, 12:00pm - 1:15pmMānoa Campus, Kuykendall 409A
We live in a time where theatre artists in America are beginning to catch up with the diverse representation of our country. As the bridge between the Pacific, Asia, and the US what are theatre artists in Hawaiʻi doing to contribute to the national theatre scene and most of all, why is it especially important to have representation from Pacific Theatre artists?
Kiki Rivera is a Samoan-Filipina Playwright/theatre artist from Waiʻanae, Hawaiʻi. Her original plays include Puzzy (featuring award-winning New Zealand Playwright Victor Rodger), Faʻalavelave: The Interruption and “Lost Boy†featured in Plantation Plays commissioned by The Leeward Theatre at Leeward Community College. On the national front, Kiki is also a regional respondent for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 8 and as an independent theatre artist and educator, she tours various colleges to encourage movement inspired self-reflective storytelling from a contemporary indigenous perspective.
