Howard Koh, former U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health to visit JABSOM

What are the top ten things you need to know about the Affordable Care Act? A physician and former government official who was deeply involved in helping develop “Obamacare” will answer that question, among others, in several sessions at the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) in November.

Dr. Howard Koh, M.D., M.P.H., now with the Harvard School of Public Health, will be in the JABSOM Medical Education Building on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

From 2009 to 2014, Dr. Koh was the United States Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services, where he was closely involved in the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA). A physician of Korean-American descent, Dr. Koh helped ensure that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the ACA would address needs of all citizens, including Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.

In addition to the ACA, the all-day event will include sessions with JABSOM students and sessions focusing on leadership in public health and Asian American and Pacific Islander Health Issues.
