Drawing on the writings and actions of the Vietnamese critics, Professor Kerkvliet’s analysis underlines four different approaches to understanding what democratization in Viet Nam entails and its relationship to social and economic development in the country.
His paper also contrasts contemporary dissent in Viet Nam to political criticism in the northern half of the country in the mid 1950s, in the southern half in the 1960s-1970s, and in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union in the 1970s-1980s.
Join Professor Kerkvliet for this talk and the introduction of his new paper!
